Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) is a statutory body whose role is to oversee all harness racing activity in Victoria.

Our mission is to deliver the most sought-after and accessible harness racing that produces financial sustainability, ensures clubs are the heart of their communities and provides equal opportunities for all participants to compete. We also operate a racetrack, accommodation, and entertainment complex (hotel accommodation, functions, bars, and gaming) which is situated in Melton and trading as Melton Entertainment Park (MEP).

The Opportunity

Finance

  • Lead the delivery of MEP’s P&L departmental review across Food & Beverage, Functions & Events, Hotel Accommodation, and Gaming including accrual and timing maintenance in preparation of monthly financial management reports
  • Month end close including all MEP monthly balance sheet reconciliations, journals and general ledger maintenance
  • Preparation of MEP monthly management reports (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reporting) and key financial information for MEP General Manager
  • Preparation of monthly MEP departmental reports to each business unit department manager, including performance against budget and provision of variance analysis
  • Processing of MEP daily revenues, import files and POS transactions ensuring accuracy to supporting sales reports. Accounting for gaming settlements, taxes, fees and commissions.
  • Assist with preparation of year end statutory accounts and audit file support
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests
  • Assist with preparation of quarterly forecasts and annual budgets in support to FP&A Manager
  • Preparation of financial information to ensure compliance with all legislative requirements
  • Review and preparation of records including asset register, debtors ledgers, stocktake and employee benefit entitlements
  • Preparation and lodgement of the monthly BAS
  • Identify, recommend and implement business improvement, process and financial controls
  • Assist with any further financial and business requirements as they arise.

Customer Service

  • Provide effective internal customer service to ensure queries are addressed in a timely and responsive manner

  • Identify areas for improvement in existing practices, systems, controls and procedures.

 

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Suitable for a degree qualified Accountant with 3+ years practical experience within a finance environment.
  • Demonstrated intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel including spread sheet creation and the use of formulas and functions.
  • Begun or completed further accounting qualification e.g. CPA or CA

  • Excellent computer skill and literacy, including Excel and practical experience using ERP accounting software

 

Location

Primary Work location: Melton Entertainment Park (Melton) / Hybrid

Travel to HRV Main Office (Flemington) on needs basis i.e. 1 day per fortnight
